Rentrée Littéraire 2020

What is la rentrée littéraire? It is that glorious time each late-August / early September when all kinds of new books come out in France. Just like the movie industry releases the movies in December that they hope will win Oscars, so the French publishing industry puts out the books this time of year that they hope will win the coveted Goncourt and other important literary prizes announced in November, which are almost always chosen from the rentrée releases. The publishers also take advantage of this time of the year to show off and promote new up and coming authors' first novels. Many seasoned authors, like Amélie Nothomb, put out something every year at this time. Just a few other notable famous authors releasing books this Rentrée littéraire 2020 include Muriel Barbery, Serge Joncour, Yasmina Khadra, Alice Zeniter, Alain Mabanckou and Camille Laurens.
