Any history buff will enjoy this well-written book, but especially fans of the Parot mysteries. It tells us what came after. Charles X was no statesman. He thought it would be a good idea to invade Algeria and impose devastating reparations on Haiti, creating problems that are still with us. But it's hard not to feel a certain sympathy for someone who lived so much in the past and had an understandable fear of going to the guillotine, like his brother.
