12 septembre 1941, J’ai retrouvé Paris… et aussi une vieille amie : la faim! Il y a encore moins à manger qu’avant l’été. Maman doit se lever à 5 heures pour partir commencer à faire la queue chez les commerçants. Si on arrive trop tard, il n’y a plus rien. Certaines personnes débrouillardes se font un peu d'argent en attendant pour les autres : Suzanne, la fille de la concierge, gagne quatre francs par heure en faisant la queue pour ceux qui lui demandent. Mais nous ne voulons rien lui demander parce que nous avons appris que les Senati sont comme la famille de Claudine : contre les juifs. C’est effrayant!

Kept by a young teenager during the Nazi occupation of France, this book will make you laugh, cry, and gasp. It is a great gift to be able to see the horrid occupation through the innocent eyes of a youngster, who, unfortunately, has to grow up pretty fast.
Adults will get just as much out of this book as teens. In fact, it should be required reading for everyone. (How I wish there were an English translation!) |
